Switching Filter Design

Designed tuned LCL filters for six different variable speed elevator drive frames.

480V, 3-phase, 50/60Hz, 28-80A, air cooled

The LCL filter mitigates active front end switching noise on a 3-phase line such that a thyristor-based phase angle controlled static switch can be reliably used for precharging a variable speed drive. The filter is pacakged as part of the drive in a very confined space.

Filter design included MathCAD analysis, bode plots, and OrCAD PSPICE circuit simulation of the active front end and filter to validate the performance of the filter. Customer inductors were specified by Powerexpert. The final filter specification, bill of material, and drawing package was provided by Powerexpert, including vendor selection and printed circuit board design, test specifications, and a final report.
