Application: Inductor Test Stand

A custom magnetics manufacturer contracted Powerexpert to develop a test stand for full current heat runs and audible noise testing with in-circuit harmonic currents present. The tester required producing harmonic currents over a wide range of inductances and currents (up to 1200Arms) while minimizing the source current (260Arms).

Powerexpert provided topology inception, simulation using Matlab Simulink, circuit design, component selection, and system packaging. A suitable power quality meter and sensors for measuring individual harmonics and various circuit parameters in real time was also included.

The customer successfully implemented the Powerexpert design and is currently using the tester for testing first releases of production inductors.
